The part of this corset that holds your mid section in is very good. It gives a smooth finish to any bulges you may have BUT the fasteners hurt-i wear a thong under this and the hooks can be somewhat painful at times.
It is a good idea to have the straps as it adds support.
I am happy with this purchase. one of the better shapewears i have bought as i am losing weigth after a c section. Alot of people compliment my weight loss and this corset gives the firmness and support i need.
